Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit North\nKorea on 9-10 April 2026 at the invitation of Pyongyang.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe upcoming visit by Foreign Minister Wang Yi is an important step\nfor the two countries to act on the common understanding reached between\nthe supreme leaders of the two parties and the two countries and to\nadvance the development of China-DPRK relations,\u201d said Spokesperson for\nthe Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning during a press conference in\nBeijing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
China and North Korea, according to Mao Ning, are traditional friends\nand neighbours connected by mountains and rivers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a steadfast strategic policy of the Communist Party of China\nand the Chinese government to maintain, consolidate, and develop\nChina-DPRK relations,\u201d Mao Ning added.<\/p>\n
Mao Ning stated that China is ready to work with North Korea to\nenhance strategic communication, increase exchanges and cooperation, and\nfurther advance the traditional friendship and cooperation between the\ntwo countries.<\/p>\n
The visit marks Foreign Minister Wang Yi\u2019s first trip to North Korea\nsince September 2019 and is expected to include meetings with North\nKorean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.<\/p>\n
The two last held talks in Beijing in September 2025.<\/p>\n
Foreign Minister Wang Yi is also likely to pay a courtesy call on\nNorth Korean leader Kim Jong-un.<\/p>\n
The visit comes after China\u2019s national carrier, Air China, resumed\nthe Beijing-Pyongyang flight route on 30 March 2026, following its last\noperation during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.<\/p>\n
North Korea\u2019s airline, Air Koryo, resumed flights between the two\ncapitals in 2023 with twice-weekly services on Tuesdays and\nSaturdays.<\/p>\n
North Korea is known to have banned all foreign tourists during the\npandemic but has begun easing restrictions, including for some Russian\ntour groups starting in 2024 with limited arrangements.<\/p>\n
Before Air China, China also reactivated the Beijing-Pyongyang\npassenger train service on 12 March 2026 after a six-year\nsuspension.<\/p>\n
The China Railway company\u2019s account \u201cChina Railay\u201d announced that\nstarting from 12 March 2026, international passenger trains will resume\ntwo-way operations between Beijing and Dandong in China and Pyongyang in\nNorth Korea.<\/p>\n
The resumption of this route is intended to further promote personnel\nexchanges, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchanges\nbetween the two countries, while enhancing the well-being and friendship\nbetween the peoples of the two nations.<\/p>\n
The train with series number K27\/K28 operates every Monday,\nWednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.<\/p>\n
In China, passengers can board or alight at Beijing Station, Tianjin\nStation, Shanhaiguan Station, Shenyang Station, and Dandong Station,\nwhile in North Korea, stops are available at Pyongyang Station and\nSinuiju Station.<\/p>\n
Border crossing procedures are conducted at the Dandong border post\nin China and Sinuiju in North Korea.<\/p>\n
Currently, tickets for the China-DPRK international passenger train\nare already on sale offline at five international ticket sales points in\nChina, namely Beijing Station, Tianjin, Shanhaiguan, Shenyang, and\nDandong.<\/p>\n
