China\u2019s memory chip giant, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), has\nsued the United States Department of Defense, or Pentagon, after being\nincluded on a list of companies accused of assisting the Chinese\nmilitary.<\/p>\n
CXMT filed the lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of\nColumbia on Friday (28\/8). The company is requesting that the US\ngovernment revoke its status as a Chinese military-linked entity and\nremove its name from the Pentagon\u2019s blacklist.<\/p>\n
CXMT denies having any relationship with the Chinese military. The\ncompany asserts that the chips it produces are used for civilian and\ncommercial purposes.<\/p>\n
\u201cCXMT is not affiliated with the Chinese military. CXMT designs,\nproduces, and sells DRAM chips for civilian and commercial use, not for\nmilitary use,\u201d the company stated in the federal lawsuit, as reported by\nReuters on Monday (31\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
The Pentagon designated CXMT as a Chinese military company during the\nadministration of President Joe Biden. The administration of President\nDonald Trump subsequently maintained CXMT\u2019s name on the list through an\nupdate in June.<\/p>\n
Responding to the lawsuit, the US Department of Defense has chosen\nnot to comment on the ongoing legal process.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a matter of policy, the Department of Defense does not comment on\npending or ongoing litigation,\u201d the Pentagon stated.<\/p>\n
CXMT believes that the inclusion on the list has had a detrimental\nimpact on its business. The company stated that the status has caused\nreputational and commercial losses since it was first designated in\nJanuary 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the initial designation in January 2025, CXMT has continued to\nsuffer reputational and commercial losses,\u201d CXMT said in a statement to\nReuters. The company added that the lawsuit was pursued to protect its\nbusiness interests.<\/p>\n
The Pentagon\u2019s list of Chinese military companies can trigger\nrestrictions on US government contracts and cause reputational damage to\nthe companies included on it.<\/p>\n
In its lawsuit, CXMT described the Pentagon\u2019s decision to blacklist\nits name as \u201carbitrary,\u201d lacking sufficient evidentiary support, and\nviolating the company\u2019s right to due process.<\/p>\n
CXMT is the largest producer of dynamic random-access memory (DRAM)\nin China. DRAM chips are widely used in various electronic devices,\nranging from smartphones and personal computers to servers and\nartificial intelligence (AI) systems.<\/p>\n
CXMT\u2019s business performance has also surged sharply. Reuters reported\nthat the company\u2019s revenue increased by 874% in the first half of this\nyear.<\/p>\n
