Recent informal talks in Urumqi between Pakistan, Afghanistan, and China underscore Beijing's role as a stabilising force for peace in Asia, offering a credible platform for de-escalation amid ongoing conflicts. The dialogue highlights the limitations of military force in resolving complex geopolitical tensions rooted in historical grievances and security dilemmas, promoting negotiation as the realistic path forward. This initiative aligns with China's Global Security Initiative, emphasising dialogue, partnerships, and mutual benefits over confrontation and zero-sum games, potentially paving the way for lasting regional stability.

Beijing (ANTARA) - Recent informal talks held between Pakistan,
Afghanistan, and China in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in
north-western China, once again underscore China’s role as a stabilising
power for peace in Asia.

This dialogue not only provides a pause in the ongoing
Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict but also demonstrates to the world that in
resolving complex geopolitical tensions, the use of military force will
only lead to a dead end, while dialogue and negotiation represent the
only realistic path towards peace.

The deep-rooted problems of the Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict extend
far beyond mere border disputes, arising instead from a complex mix of
historical grievances, security dilemmas, and geopolitical
pressures.

In such a tense context, China’s role goes beyond merely providing a
venue for dialogue. As a close neighbour maintaining constructive
relations with both parties, China offers a credible, neutral, and
trustworthy platform. This platform prioritises de-escalation,
encourages dialogue, and supports fragile trust. This is not mere
symbolic diplomacy but concrete action aimed at stabilising a volatile
region.

Both Pakistan and Afghanistan are increasingly realising that the
cycle of violence only deepens insecurity. China’s mediation has helped
shift the focus from confrontation to consultation.

More importantly, the Urumqi negotiations once again reflect China’s
proposed Global Security Initiative (GSI), which promotes a new path to
security that prioritises dialogue over confrontation, partnerships over
alliances, and mutually beneficial patterns of interaction over win-lose
(zero-sum) approaches. Neighbours cannot be chosen, but the way they
interact can be shaped.

The road ahead is indeed full of challenges, but the Urumqi
negotiations have opened a door that, if managed carefully, can lead to
enduring peace.
",
