        "content": "<p>China wins Iraq post-war contract<\/p>\n<p>BEIJING: China has won its first contract in post-war Iraq,<br>\nsealing a deal with the Iraqi Ministry of Communication to supply<br>\nthe country with telecommunications equipment, state media said<br>\non Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The Zhongxing Telecom Co (ZTE) signed a contract worth US$5<br>\nmillion after six months of difficult negotiations, the Xinhua<br>\nnews agency said on its website.<\/p>\n<p>The deal was concluded in the face of what Xinhua said was<br>\n\"some resistance\" on the part of the U.S.-led Coalition<br>\nProvisional Authority.<\/p>\n<p>\"On the one hand, the Iraqis themselves wished to continue<br>\nworking with China but on the other the Coalition Provisional<br>\nAuthority seemed to spare no effort in its desire to see all the<br>\ncontracts go to American companies,\" ZTE's project manager Dong<br>\nBaoping was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Several other Chinese companies have been to Iraq to bid for<br>\nreconstruction projects, but all returned empty-handed, Xinhua<br>\nsaid. -- AFP<\/p>",
