Jakarta (ANTARA) - The China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI)\nsays Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s remarks on protecting\nforeign investment send a positive message about strengthening economic\nand trade cooperation between Indonesia and China.<\/p>\n
In a written statement received by ANTARA from the Chinese Embassy in\nIndonesia on Thursday in Jakarta, the CCCI said Chinese companies had\nwelcomed Prabowo\u2019s pledge to safeguard all investment and maintain\npartnerships with investors who had placed their trust in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
At the launch of several downstreaming projects at the Indonesia Weda\nBay Industrial Park (IWIP) in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, on 8\nOctober, Prabowo affirmed the government\u2019s commitment to respect and\nsafeguard all investment, whether domestic or foreign.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am here to affirm the Government of the Republic of Indonesia\u2019s\ncommitment to respecting and safeguarding all investment, from wherever\nit originates, that is made on Indonesian soil,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n
The President said that maintaining partnerships with those who had\nplaced their trust in Indonesia was a matter of honour for the\nIndonesian nation. He described those who had shown confidence and dared\nto work together in new areas as brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n
The CCCI said the commitment was a positive signal for the business\nclimate and Chinese investors\u2019 confidence in expanding their business\nactivities in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Support for continued cooperation was also voiced by Chinese Foreign\nMinistry spokesperson Mao Ning at a press conference in Beijing on\nTuesday (13 October).<\/p>\n
Mao said her government was committed to deepening mutually\nbeneficial cooperation with Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe success of Chinese companies in Indonesia is also a success for\nIndonesia. We will work with Indonesia to follow up on the strategic\nagreements between the two presidents and continue deepening mutually\nbeneficial cooperation in relevant fields,\u201d Mao said.<\/p>\n
Mao also said bilateral cooperation in energy, mining and other\nsectors had delivered tangible benefits to both countries and their\npeople. She said the collaboration could help Indonesia optimise its\nnatural resources to promote national development and prosperity.<\/p>\n
China hopes the Indonesian government will continue to protect the\nlegitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies and create an open,\nfair, transparent and friendly business climate.<\/p>\n
The scale of investment cooperation between the two countries is\nreflected in the development of IWIP. Prabowo said realised investment\nat the industrial park had reached about US$20 billion, with a further\nUS$7 billion planned in the future.<\/p>\n
Development of the industrial park has also reportedly created more\nthan 100,000 jobs.<\/p>\n
