        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - China\u2019s Ambassador to ASEAN, Wang Qing, stated\nthat China wishes to work with ASEAN to realise reconciliation and peace\nin Myanmar, which has been plagued by civil war following the 2021\nmilitary coup.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe completion of the general election in Myanmar provides a new\nopportunity for us, including China and ASEAN, to take steps to\nencourage Myanmar\u2019s authorities to achieve reconciliation there,\u201d said\nAmbassador Wang during a meeting and dialogue with media and think tanks\nin Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Myanmar recently concluded a general election organised by the\nmilitary junta in January, with the resulting parliament convening for\nthe first time on 16 March.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wang, communication is the only way to ensure that ASEAN\nand China can influence Myanmar\u2019s military junta by conveying advice and\nhopes for peace in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He also highlighted the good faith of ASEAN countries in continuing\nto recognise Myanmar as a fellow ASEAN member and their commitment to\nthe Five-Point Consensus (5PC) to end the conflict in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Although acknowledging that countries remain divided on how to\nrespond to the junta\u2019s conduct of the election, the Ambassador said that\nnow is the right time to push Myanmar back towards reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow is our opportunity to influence and encourage them to achieve\nreconciliation and to return to the ASEAN family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s Ambassador to ASEAN explained that in helping to ease the\nconflict in Myanmar, China will continue to communicate with all\nrelevant parties, urge them to exercise restraint, and promote efforts\nto achieve peace and stability in Myanmar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChina will continue these steps, and I think we can work together\nwith ASEAN on this,\u201d Wang added.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, in February, emphasised that\nthe organisation will continue to engage through its diplomatic efforts\nto address Myanmar\u2019s internal conflict as long as there is no escalation\nof violence and a ceasefire remains feasible.<\/p>\n<p>He also affirmed that ASEAN will remain involved in addressing the\nMyanmar conflict in accordance with the framework established by the\n5PC, which aims to curb violence, promote inclusive dialogue, and ensure\nhumanitarian assistance, without directly interfering in internal\naffairs.<\/p>",
