Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has affirmed that\nstable China-US relations are not just a slogan, but must be realised\nthrough concrete actions following the meeting between Presidents Xi\nJinping and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
\u201cA constructive, strategic, and stable China-US relationship is not\njust a slogan, but must be a goal that both sides uphold and realise\nthrough joint actions,\u201d Wang Yi said in a written statement published on\nthe website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday evening\n(15\/5).<\/p>\n
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting for two hours and 15 minutes\non Thursday. The meeting was followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven\nand a state banquet.<\/p>\n
On Friday, Trump also received a private tour of Zhongnanhai, the\ncomplex that houses the offices and official residence of Xi Jinping and\nother senior officials of the Communist Party of China.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must follow the direction set by the two heads of state, continue\nto enrich the meaning of this new position, translate it into concrete\npolicies and actions, and jointly open a new chapter in China-US\nrelations,\u201d Wang Yi said.<\/p>\n
A number of American business leaders accompanied Trump on the visit.\nTrump also specifically invited business leaders to attend the location\nof the meeting between the two heads of state.<\/p>\n
According to Wang Yi, President Xi encouraged American business\nleaders to strengthen cooperation with China and affirmed that China\u2019s\neconomic openness will continue to be expanded.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey generally expressed great appreciation for the Chinese market,\nexpressed their desire to deepen business in China, and continue to\nstrengthen cooperation with China,\u201d Wang Yi said, adding that this\nshowed that China remains an important destination for US corporate\ninvestment.<\/p>\n
He added that Xi also encouraged a China-US youth exchange program by\ninviting 50,000 American teenagers to come to China in the next five\nyears to study and participate in cultural exchanges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis initiative has received a warm response and active\nparticipation from various sectors in both countries,\u201d Wang Yi said.<\/p>\n
Trump also reportedly welcomed Chinese students to study in the\nUnited States.<\/p>\n
According to Wang Yi, improving people-to-people relations is a\nconsensus of the two heads of state and also the hope of the people of\nboth countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina will, as before, continue to promote and support this,\nstrengthen the social foundation of relations between the two countries,\nand write more stories of friendship between the Chinese and American\npeople,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wang Yi added that China-US relations are related to the well-being\nof more than 1.7 billion people in both countries and have an impact on\nthe international community.<\/p>\n
