        "content": "<p>Beijing (ANTARA) - The Chinese government has stated that the rights\nand interests of countries around the Strait of Hormuz must be respected\nso that shipping in the region can return to normal as soon as possible.\n\u201cRespect for the legitimate rights and interests of the coastal states\nof the Strait of Hormuz and the immediate restoration of normal and safe\nnavigation in the strait is what the international community wants to\nsee,\u201d said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian at a press\nconference in Beijing on Tuesday. Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a\nvital shipping lane for global oil and gas supplies, continue to\nescalate. Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Sunday\n(12\/7) announced the re-closure of the Strait of Hormuz and stated it\nhad attacked United States military bases in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait\nin retaliation for prior US strikes on several Iranian coastal\nprovinces. The following day, Monday (13\/7), US President Donald Trump\nsaid his country would continue a maritime blockade against Iran, act as\nthe \u201cguardian\u201d of the Strait of Hormuz, and levy a fee of 20 percent of\nthe cargo value for vessels transiting the shipping lane. Trump also\nsaid his administration would re-impose a blockade on Iranian ports.\n\u201cChina is deeply concerned about the renewed military conflict in the\nGulf region. China calls on the relevant parties to heed the strong\ncalls for peace and stability from the region and the international\ncommunity, remain calm, and exercise restraint,\u201d Lin Jian said. He also\nurged all parties to maintain the hard-won ceasefire, avoid a resurgence\nof war, and, more importantly, prevent the expansion of fighting and\nfurther civilian casualties. \u201cThe relevant parties need to move in the\nsame direction and seek an appropriate resolution,\u201d Lin Jian added. Lin\nJian said China would continue to act on the four proposals put forward\nby President Xi Jinping and make every effort to ease tensions and\nstabilise the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Shortly\nafter Trump\u2019s statement, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM)\nstated via its X account that its forces would continue the blockade of\nmaritime traffic to and from Iranian ports on Tuesday starting at 16:00\nlocal time. On Tuesday (14\/7), CENTCOM stated it had completed a new\nwave of strikes against Iranian military targets in Bushehr, Chabahar,\nJask, Konarak, and Bandar Abbas to further degrade Iran\u2019s ability to\nattack commercial shipping. As a result of these developments, the price\nof Brent crude oil rose by about 3.5 percent to nearly 79 US dollars per\nbarrel, approximately nine percent above pre-conflict levels. The\nprevious blockade was lifted after Pakistan mediated a memorandum of\nunderstanding between the United States and Iran in June 2026. The\nagreement was scheduled to be followed by a final deal after at least 60\ndays of negotiations, including on Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme. The\nInternational Energy Agency (IEA) stated in a report that the resumption\nof oil exports from the Gulf region following the initial ceasefire\nbetween the United States and Iran last month had boosted global oil\nsupplies.
