China to boost tourists to Bali<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: The Chinese government has pledged to increase
\ncooperation in tourism with Bali, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia
\nLan Lijun said after meeting with an official from Denpasar
\nmunicipality, I Made Westra.<\/p>\n
Westra briefed the Chinese envoy on Friday about the
\nprovince's security measures, Antara reported. Lan was invited by
\nthe Bali provincial authorities to attend the opening of the Bali
\nArts Festival by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Saturday.<\/p>\n
"I believe that in the future, the Chinese tourists will
\nincrease their trips to Bali, particularly to Denpasar, because
\nthe authority here (in Bali province) have given enough attention
\nto the safety of visitors," Lan was quoted as saying by Antara.<\/p>\n
"We feel that the atmosphere in Bali, including the security,
\nis no different with China," he said, adding that Bali is one of
\nfavored destinations for Chinese tourists.<\/p>\n
Lan, who visited Bali for the first time since he was
\nappointed ambassador this year, said he was impressed by the
\nBalinese hospitality and culture.<\/p>\n
According to the Denpasar tourism agency, the number of
\nChinese tourists visiting Bali from January to April,
\nparticularly those who stay in Denpasar, was only 78 persons.<\/p>\n
Westra did not say whether security was the major concern for
\nthe low numbers, but he claimed that all Balinese were committed
\nto keep their island safe and secure.<\/p>\n
"Though there are local election campaigns, Bali is still good
\nfor traveling... Moreover, almost 60 percent of Balinese earn
\ntheir living from tourism, which makes up the majority of Bali's
