Beijing (ANTARA) - The Chinese government has proposed an inclusive\nopen-source artificial intelligence (AI) initiative to the member\nnations of the BRICS group.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the 18th BRICS Summit, President Xi Jinping proposed an inclusive\nopen-scale AI initiative, a digital industry cooperation initiative, and\na smart manufacturing cooperation initiative,\u201d stated Chinese Ministry\nof Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Guo Jiakun during a press conference in\nBeijing on Monday.<\/p>\n
Guo Jiakun noted that these proposals were delivered by President Xi\nJinping during the second session of the plenary meeting at the 18th\nBRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday (13\/9).<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Xi announced several concrete cooperation steps. China\nwill pioneer the formation of an open-source AI community within BRICS,\nbuild a BRICS cloud computing digital ecosystem, and launch a BRICS\nyouth exchange programme for science and technology innovation,\u201d added\nGuo Jiakun.<\/p>\n
According to Guo Jiakun, China is committed to supporting other\nGlobal South nations in enhancing capacity and gaining equitable\nbenefits from new technologies to ensure shared growth.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Guo Jiakun stated that President Xi Jinping summarised\nthe BRICS development journey through three expressions: self-reliance\nand self-strengthening, togetherness in facing prosperity and adversity,\nand beneficial outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident Xi emphasised that over the past two decades, BRICS has\ngrown with strong spirit and vitality, becoming the most influential\ncooperation platform in the world today for developing nations,\u201d said\nGuo Jiakun.<\/p>\n
President Xi Jinping also asserted that BRICS must stand firmly on\nthe right side of history, striving to be pioneers in advancing\ninnovation-based development, prioritising peace and stability,\nfacilitating inter-civilisation learning, and driving global governance\nreform and improvement.<\/p>\n
\u201cGlobal South nations must collectively uphold the rule of law in\ninternational affairs, uphold the spirit of multilateralism, remain\ncommitted to a people-centred development philosophy, jointly advance\nsecurity governance, steer the international order towards a more just\nand equal direction, and work together to build a community with a\nshared future for mankind,\u201d explained Guo Jiament.<\/p>\n
Guo Jiakun also revealed that President Xi Jinping emphasised that to\nachieve great things and significant progress, the foundation of broader\nBRICS cooperation must be strengthened.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina will assume the BRICS presidency next year and host the 19th\nBRICS Summit. We will build consensus and work with all parties to plan\nfor the future so that we can collectively usher in the third golden\ndecade of BRICS and open a bright future for shared prosperity and\nprogress,\u201d asserted Guo Jiakun.<\/p>\n
The BRICS presidency rotates annually according to the acronym\u2019s\nletters. Each term begins on 1 January and ends on 31 December of that\nyear. The presiding nation sets the agenda priorities for the year,\nhosts the annual summit, and directs ministerial meetings and key\nworking groups.<\/p>\n
The 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, focused on four main\npillars: resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability in\nresponding to various global challenges, including rising geopolitical\ntensions.<\/p>\n
Attendees at the BRICS Summit included President Xi Jinping of China,\nPresident Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Prabowo Subianto of\nIndonesia, President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, President Cyril\nRamaphosa of South Africa, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt,\nPrime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi\nSheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Prime Minister\nNarendra Modi of India.<\/p>\n
Brazil was represented by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, while Saudi\nArabia was represented by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al\nSaud.<\/p>\n
BRICS has also admitted partner countries into its cooperation\nframework, including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia,\nNigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n
