The Chinese government has officially announced strategic steps to\nexpand the diversification of energy imports and strengthen national\nreserves. This measure is taken as a swift response to enhance the\nnation\u2019s capacity in facing increasingly uncertain global\nemergencies.<\/p>\n
Deputy Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission\n(NDRC), Wang Changlin, stressed that this step is crucial amid the\ncurrent global market uncertainties. This was stated during an official\npress conference held by the state economic planning agency in\nBeijing.<\/p>\n
\u201cChina will continue to diversify energy imports and increase energy\nreserves to help enhance its capacity in facing emergencies,\u201d said Wang\nChanglin in his statement in Beijing on Friday (17\/4\/2026), quoted from\nReuters.<\/p>\n
The current global energy supply is experiencing severe disruptions\ndue to the outbreak of war in Iran that began on 28 February. This\nconflict has trapped hundreds of tankers and other ships following the\nclosure of the Strait of Hormuz, which previously carried around 20% of\nglobal oil shipments.<\/p>\n
As the world\u2019s largest oil importer, China claims that their domestic\nenergy market remains stable. Wang explained that this stability is the\nresult of various government policies to protect domestic oil supplies\nin order to counter global price shocks.<\/p>\n

Since the war broke out, China has recorded three adjustments to the\nretail price caps for petrol and diesel. The petrol retail price cap has\nrisen by 2,275 yuan (Rp5,728,450) per tonne, while the diesel price has\nincreased by 2,185 yuan (Rp5,501,830) per tonne.<\/p>\n
Despite the increases, the Chinese government has taken bold policies\nto contain price volatility in society. The second and third price\nadjustments were limited to only about half of the slight increase that\nshould have occurred based on the applicable pricing mechanism in the\ncountry.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, China is committed to continuing to aggressively\npromote domestic energy production. This is done to strengthen national\nenergy sovereignty and security so as not to fully depend on escalating\nforeign geopolitical situations.<\/p>\n
