        "content": "<p>China Light eyes RI deal<\/p>\n<p>HONG KONG (Reuters): China Light &amp; Power Co Ltd said yesterday<br>\nit was in talks with PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) on a<br>\nproject for a submarine cable linking the Indonesian islands of<br>\nBali and Lombok.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is a substantial project, more than US$100 million<br>\ndepending on the capacity of the cable,&quot; managing director Ross<br>\nSayers told a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>He said a memorandum of understanding had been signed with<br>\nPLN, the national electricity utility, and while other projects<br>\nin Indonesia were suffering from the currency turmoil in<br>\nSoutheast Asia, this project was not affected.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The misfortune that faces other projects favors us,&quot; Sayers<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>China Light said it now has a representative office in Jakarta<br>\nand was looking to set one up in the Philippines in the near<br>\nfuture. The company said there would be opportunities for<br>\ndevelopment in the Philippines with the restructuring of the<br>\npower industry.<\/p>",
