        "content": "<p>Tokyo (ANTARA) - China has led the world in both the volume and\nquality of financial technology (fintech) patent applications over the\npast decade, as reported by Nikkei on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The finding is based on a survey of fintech-related patent\napplications across 118 countries and regions between 2016 and 2025,\nconducted jointly by Nikkei and Patent Result, a Tokyo-based research\nfirm.<\/p>\n<p>According to the survey, global fintech patent applications reached\napproximately 120,000 in the ten years up to 2025, nearly triple the\nvolume of the previous decade.<\/p>\n<p>Patent applications from Chinese companies during the period\naccounted for more than 38 per cent of the global total, the largest\nshare by far, with the number of filings increasing tenfold from the\nprevious decade.<\/p>\n<p>The United States ranked second with a 17 per cent share, followed by\nSouth Korea with 9 per cent and Japan with 8 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese companies also dominated at the corporate level, occupying\neight of the top ten positions by number of fintech patent applications.\nIndustrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) topped the global\nranking, followed among others by Bank of China, China Construction\nBank, and Tencent in the top ten list.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that China\u2019s advantage lies not merely in volume:\nthe country also leads in patent quality, as measured by value and\ncompetitiveness scores, with the United States and Japan in second and\nthird place respectively.<\/p>",
