        "content": "<p>China fights corruption<\/p>\n<p>BEIJING (AFP): China is stepping up a major drive against<br>\ncorruption in the police and the judicial department, sources<br>\nsaid on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A Hong Kong newspaper reported on Wednesday that the police<br>\nchief of the southern city of Guangzhou had been forcibly<br>\nescorted to Beijing to help in the investigation of corruption<br>\ncharges against a public security minister.<\/p>\n<p>Sources in Beijing confirmed that deputy public security<br>\nminister Li Jizhou was formally arrested for corruption in mid-<br>\nDecember. Li had been responsible for a nationwide crackdown on<br>\nsmuggling.<\/p>\n<p>A top official in the customs administration was arrested<br>\naround the same time, they said, adding both would probably be<br>\nexecuted if found guilty.<\/p>",
