According to the Chinese news agency\nXinhua, the two sides engaged in an open, in-depth, and constructive\nexchange of views regarding the implementation of agreements reached\nduring the leaders\u2019 meeting in Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>The discussions also covered maintaining the stability of economic\nand trade relations, expanding practical cooperation, and effectively\naddressing each party\u2019s concerns in the next phase. This follows the\nrecent announcement by the US Trade Representative regarding a 12.5 per\ncent tariff on imports from China.<\/p>\n<p>Officials agreed to further utilise China-US economic and trade\nconsultation mechanisms to strengthen communication, build mutual trust,\neliminate doubts, and expand cooperation. Both parties also committed to\npromoting stable and positive development in bilateral economic and\ntrade relations and contributing to the development of a constructive\nrelationship characterised by strategic stability.<\/p>\n<p>These talks took place ahead of the planned visit by Chinese\nPresident Xi Jinping to the US in late September. US Secretary of State\nMarco Rubio recently stated that the high-level meeting remains on\nschedule, despite allegations from President Donald Trump regarding\nChinese interference in US elections.<\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement reached following the meeting between Trump and\nXi in May, Beijing agreed to address Washington\u2019s concerns regarding\nsupply shortages in the supply chains of rare earth elements and other\ncritical minerals. The agreement also requires China to address\nrestrictions on the sale of equipment and processing technology used in\nthe production of these materials. Furthermore, Beijing has committed to\npurchasing at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products\nannually until 2028, in addition to previous commitments.<\/p>",
