        "content": "<p>Istanbul (ANTARA) - On Friday (1\/5), China expanded its zero-tariff\npolicy to all African countries with which it maintains diplomatic\nrelations, a step aimed at strengthening trade relations and supporting\nindustrial development across the continent, according to state\nmedia.<\/p>\n<p>Under the new policy, tariffs have been eliminated for imports from\n53 African countries, including developing nations such as Kenya, Egypt,\nand Nigeria, according to a Xinhua News report.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative builds on previous measures that provided full tariff\nexemptions to 33 least-developed countries on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The first shipment to benefit from the expanded policy \u2013 24 tonnes of\napples from South Africa \u2013 cleared customs in Shenzhen on Friday (1\/5),\nmarking a symbolic start to broader market access for African goods.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese trade authorities stated that the move will give African\nexports \u2013 ranging from cocoa and coffee to oranges and wine \u2013 a\ncompetitive edge in the Chinese market, where such products previously\nfaced tariffs of between 8 and 30 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Officials also anticipate that the policy will encourage investment\nin African processing industries, helping to shift economies away from\nraw material exports.<\/p>\n<p>China remains Africa\u2019s largest trading partner, with China-Africa\ntrade reaching a record high of $348 billion (Rp6,032 trillion) in\n2025.<\/p>\n<p>Of that total, China\u2019s imports from Africa amounted to $123 billion\n(Rp2,132 trillion), up 5.4 per cent from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>The new tariff exemption aligns with China\u2019s broader efforts to\ndeepen economic openness.<\/p>\n<p>Under the framework of the 15th Five-Year Plan, Beijing aims to\nfurther open its market while building a transparent, stable, and\npredictable business environment.<\/p>\n<p>The government is also committed to enhancing the quality and scope\nof trade and investment cooperation by 2030.<\/p>",
