This move is seen as an effort to\nmaintain competitiveness amidst the growing popularity of Chinese AI\nmodels that offer lower costs. The price reductions apply to the\nentry-level and mid-tier models of the American AI giant, OpenAI, to\nensure they remain attractive to the business sector.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI has ensured that this price-cutting strategy will not erode\nthe company\u2019s profits. According to the company, recent technological\nefficiencies have significantly lowered operational costs, allowing\nprices to be reduced without sacrificing profitability. According to\nReuters, OpenAI has cut the costs for the GPT-5.6 Luna model by up of\n80%, while the Terra model has been reduced by 20%. Meanwhile, the price\nfor the Sol model remains unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>This policy allows business users to pay much lower fees per million\ntokens when using the AI platform. Specifically, input costs for the\nLuna model have dropped to US$0.20 per million tokens from the previous\nUS$1, while input costs for the Terra model have been cut from US$2.50\nto US$2. Kyle Chan, a research associate at the John L.\nThornton China Center of the Brookings Institution think tank, stated\nthat Chinese AI models are becoming increasingly attractive to US\ncompanies because they offer cost efficiency amidst the high expense of\nusing American-made models. \u201cPreviously, US companies only prioritised\nAI adoption.
