        "content": "<p>BEKASI \u2014 Children spending excessive time using gadgets risk\ndeveloping digital dependency that could affect their psychological and\nsocial development.<\/p>\n<p>Pratama Persadha, a cybersecurity observer and Chairman of the\nCommunication and Information System Security Research Center (CISSReC),\nstated that this condition occurs because children interact more\nfrequently through screens than with people around them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren who spend too much time in the digital world tend to\nexperience a decline in their ability to interact socially in real\nlife,\u201d Pratama said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (16 March\n2026).<\/p>\n<p>Limited social interaction in the real world has the potential to\naffect children\u2019s ability to build relationships and adapt to their\nsurrounding environment.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the social impact, unsupervised gadget use also opens various\nrisks in the digital space.<\/p>\n<p>Children are the most vulnerable group of internet users to various\ncyber threats because they generally do not yet understand the long-term\nconsequences of their digital activities.<\/p>\n<p>Exposure to negative content on social media is also a significant\nrisk.<\/p>\n<p>According to Pratama, children who frequently spend time with gadgets\nare more easily exposed to violent content, pornography, hate speech,\nand cyberbullying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most common risks that emerge are exposure to violent content,\npornography, hate speech, and cyberbullying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This situation is exacerbated because the development of the digital\nspace is far faster than the readiness of regulations and public digital\nliteracy.<\/p>\n<p>As a preventive measure, the government through the Ministry of\nCommunications and Digital plans to restrict social media accounts for\nchildren under 16 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>This policy is outlined in Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025\nconcerning the Management of Electronic System Operations in Child\nProtection, also known as PP Tunas, which is scheduled to be implemented\nfrom 28 March 2026.<\/p>",
