        "content": "<p>Chikungunya hits Situbondo<\/p>\n<p>SITUBONDO, East Java: More than 100 Situbondo residents have<br>\ncontracted Chikungunya disease, which is similar to dengue fever<br>\nbut not fatal, in the past two weeks, following a similar<br>\noutbreak in other parts of the country, including Yogyakarta and<br>\nWest Java.<\/p>\n<p>The disease has struck Suboh, Mlandingan and Besuki districts,<br>\nwhere 80, 48 and seven residents respectively have been diagnosed<br>\nwith the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Ribut Djunaidi, the head of the Situbondo regency health<br>\noffice, said that regency officials had fumigated places<br>\nsuspected of being breeding grounds for Aedes Albopticus<br>\nmosquito, which is a carrier of the Chikungunya virus.<\/p>\n<p>Chikungunya is contracted through a mosquito bite and is<br>\ncharacterized by an extremely high fever and severe joint pain<br>\n(arthralgia) that last up to a week. -- Antara<\/p>",
