Chemical maker denies its product hazardous<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A director of a local firm, PT Zeneca, denied
\nyesterday that its products were hazardous to users and the
\nenvironment.<\/p>\n
The company's director, Michael Pragnell, told journalists
\nthat para-col and gramozone, types of weed killer, were produced
\nto help support the government's program on food self-
\nsufficiency.<\/p>\n
Pragnell denied news reports that PT Zeneca's products were
\ndangerous to consumers, saying that the factory had informed and
\neven trained farmers on how to use the weed killers properly.<\/p>\n
He said his company has worked closely with government
\nofficials regarding the company's products and broader of use of
\nweed killers for boosting the country's agricultural output.<\/p>\n
PT Zeneca, which operates in the West Java village of Gunung
\nPutri, Bogor, yesterday donated a number of school facilities to
\na government-run elementary school as a mark of its participation
\nin encouraging public awareness of the environment.<\/p>\n
Industries producing weed killers in Indonesia are subject to
\nconducting continual research on the products to ensure that the
