        "content": "<p>Cheaper ASEAN exports<\/p>\n<p>BEIJING (AFP): Chinese central bank governor Dai Xianglong<br>\nsaid yesterday he was nonplussed by sharper export competition<br>\nfrom Southeast Asian nations after the devaluation of their<br>\ncurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>\"Some countries in Southeast Asia have enhanced their export<br>\nability because of their currency devaluation and this has added<br>\na competitive edge to those nations compared with China,\" said<br>\nDai, who is governor of the People's Bank of China.<\/p>\n<p>\"But their exports are different in terms of products and<br>\nexport markets and I do not think there will be a major impact of<br>\nChina's exports,\" he told a media briefing.<\/p>\n<p>The Thai baht, Malaysian ringgit, Philippine peso and<br>\nIndonesian rupiah have all devalued in the last month following<br>\nintense currency speculation in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\"In the second half, China's foreign trade exports will<br>\ncontinue to enjoy a surplus, foreign reserves will increase and<br>\nChina's international balance of payments will not be affected,\"<br>\nDai said.<\/p>",
