Changwon industries seek investment opportunities<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A trade mission from South Korea's industrial
\ncity of Changwon has arrived here for a three-day visit to
\nexplore investment opportunities.<\/p>\n
Changwon mayor Kong Min Bae, who was leading the mission, said
\nyesterday he brought along executives from 12 middle-scale
\nmanufacturing companies in Changwon.<\/p>\n
The 12 companies represent different manufacturing industries,
\nsuch as car parts, heavy equipment parts, water pumps,
\nventilation fans, water purifiers, paper machine equipment,
\nconstruction equipment, golf shoes, universal joints, cooling
\nfans, clutches, ceramic resistor cards, factory automation plants
\nand others.<\/p>\n
\"They are exploring business opportunities, not only for
\nthemselves, but also for other companies in Changwon that cannot
\ntake part in the mission,\" said Kong, who claimed that the
\nChangwon city administration had prepared for the mission for a
\nyear.<\/p>\n
According to Kong, each of the 12 companies had prepared to
\ninvest up to US$100 million in a joint venture or wholly-owned
\nenterprise in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Changwon, located in the southeastern part of Korea, has a
\nlarge industrial area with 562 industrial companies. It has a
\npopulation of 500,000, including 200,000 factory workers and
\ntheir families.<\/p>\n
Mining and manufacturing companies represent the largest
\npercentage of the city's industrial companies, but the city's
\nlargest exports are machinery and electrical products.<\/p>\n
The city's exports reached $3.4 billion last year, while its
\nimports stood at $3.7 billion.<\/p>\n
Kong said Changwon companies found Indonesia very attractive
\nfor investment due to its vast natural resources, large potential
\nmarket and investment climate.<\/p>\n
Indonesia remained attractive to Changwon companies despite
\nthe current monetary crisis, which they said was only temporary
\nin nature and would not affect the country's economic strength,
\nKong said.<\/p>\n
The business delegation will stay here until Thursday and will
\ncontinue their trip to Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam, also for
