        "content": "<p>Change ownership of Cendana assets<\/p>\n<p>From Rakyat Merdeka<\/p>\n<p>Allow me to express my opinion about several recent news items<br>\nwhich have drawn many people's attention:<\/p>\n<p>* Regarding efforts to collect the assets of Cendana's cronies<br>\nstashed abroad, I suggest that ownership of these assets must be<br>\ntransferred from the cronies to the Indonesian government, in<br>\nthis case, the minister of finance. Let the assets in the form of<br>\ncash remain in overseas banks, but place their ownership in the<br>\nhands of the minister of finance. In this way the government can<br>\nenjoy the interest accruing from these deposits. Foreign banks<br>\nmay not agree to the withdrawal of deposits (belonging to just<br>\nanybody) because this means allowing funds to leave the country.<br>\nAs for immovable assets, they may simply be sold and the proceeds<br>\ndeposited. The country in which the assets are now stashed may be<br>\nwilling to help the Indonesian government in this respect.<\/p>\n<p>* Regarding the messy economic condition, I suggest the<br>\ngovernment establish a nongovernmental institution, such as an<br>\nindependent commission. The members, who must be free from<br>\npractices of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN), would be<br>\nauthorized to receive reports on practices of KKN. These reports<br>\nwould then be submitted to the authorities. This is a good way to<br>\neradicate practices of KKN. It all depends on the willingness of<br>\nthe government, though.<\/p>\n<p>* About the government's plan to relocate victims of Sambas<br>\nriots to islands close to East Kalimantan, I suggest the<br>\ngovernment choose a fertile island far from Sambas. If the island<br>\nis close to Sambas, it is feared that these relocated victims<br>\nwill be attacked again. The boats carrying Sambas refugees were<br>\nintercepted by boats from Sambas the other day, weren't they?<\/p>\n<p>GENDIN<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta<\/p>",
