Traffic at the Chairil Anwar Street junction, Margahayu Urban
Village, Bekasi Timur District, Bekasi City, was observed to be busy yet
moving smoothly on Friday afternoon (6 March 2026). The area is
frequently reported to experience congestion, with causes not always
clear. According to Kompas.com’s on-site observations, from 5:00 pm to
6:30 pm WIB vehicles could still move without substantial hindrance.

The Chairil Anwar Street junction is one of Bekasi City’s key
intersections. From this point, motorists can reach the Bekasi Timur
Toll Gate, Bulak Kapal, Kalimalang Road towards Cikarang, and the city
centre of Bekasi. Traffic lights are installed on each side of the
junction to regulate vehicles from different directions. On Friday
afternoon, several officers from the Department of Transportation
(Dishub) and the traffic police were seen on duty helping to manage the
flow of traffic.

Local resident Mardi (55) said congestion tends to occur because
drivers do not observe traffic signs. He noted that jams are most common
during peak hours, especially in the morning when people go to work and
school. “Usually the congestion is in the morning around 07:00 to
08:00,” he said. Congestion also frequently occurs in the late afternoon
as traffic volumes rise. “In the afternoon it usually starts around
15:00 and lasts until about 19:00. This is because vehicles from Jakarta
heading to Bekasi City, and from Cikarang, also flock here, so the flow
is heavy,” Mardi continued. “Passing through here I usually avoid the
busy hours. The congestion can last about 10 to 30 minutes,” Mirza
added. He said the traffic tends to worsen if it rains. “And if it keeps
raining with no officers on duty, it will definitely be congested,”
Mirza said.
",
