Chain collision on toll road<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A chain collision involving eight vehicles
\noccurred on the Cawang-Grogol toll road in front of the Ministry
\nof Manpower on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, at noon
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
No fatalities were reported in the incident and those involved
\nin the accident escaped without a scratch.<\/p>\n
The crash took place when a speeding Kowanbinsata minibus
\nplying the Pulogadung-Ciputat route failed to apply his brakes
\nand hit a Suzuki Baleno bearing number plate B 2806 JT.<\/p>\n
The packed minibus then veered left and crashed into the back
\nof a Mitsubishi truck, which then bumped into a Merpati airlines
\nMitsubishi van.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the Suzuki Baleno also lost control, hit the
\ntoll-road median before crashing into a Suzuki Carry van.<\/p>\n
Because of the short distance between the cars, the chain
\ncollision was inevitable. The Suzuki Carry bumped into a red BMW
\nsedan, which later hit the back of a Suzuki Escudo before rear-
\nending a Honda Civic sedan.<\/p>\n
Officers of the police's rapid reaction unit arrived at the
\nscene 15 minutes later. Police discovered the minibus driver,
\nHutagalung, did not have a driver's license.<\/p>\n
\"He said his driver's license had been revoked because he'd
\nbeen involved in a traffic violation. And the minibus
\nregistration document expired last June,\" a police officer, who
\nasked not to be named, said.<\/p>\n
Hutagalung was taken to city police headquarters for further
\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
The accident caused a traffic jam for about 30 minutes, but
\nthe police quickly got the traffic flowing again. (edt)<\/p>",
