        "content": "<p>CFC to open 60 outlets this year<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): California Fried Chicken (CFC), a local fast<br>\nfood chain owned by PT Putra Sejahtera Pioneerindo (PSP Group),<br>\nplans to open about 60 outlets this year with small<br>\nentrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>PSP's franchise division vice president, Amir Karamoy, said<br>\nyesterday the partnership was part of a retail expansion<br>\nstrategy.<\/p>\n<p>\"The partnership program will give opportunities to small<br>\nentrepreneurs to flourish in the country's growing franchise<br>\nbusiness,\" Karamoy said.<\/p>\n<p>PSP, which will cooperate with the Ministry of Cooperatives<br>\nand Small Enterprises in the partnership program, will require<br>\nentrepreneurs to invest about Rp 350 million (US$144,500) to set<br>\nup a franchise, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The investment requirement was low compared to foreign fast<br>\nfood franchises, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said franchises like McDonald's required an initial<br>\ninvestment of about Rp 2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Amir said with a Rp 300 million initial investment, a CFC<br>\nfranchisee could break even in between one-and-a-half years and<br>\nthree years.<\/p>\n<p>Amir said he was optimistic that partnerships with small<br>\nentrepreneurs would make the company more competitive, especially<br>\nduring the free trade era.<\/p>\n<p>PSP operates several restaurant chains including California<br>\nDonat, California Pizza, Isabento, Bang Slamet and Sapo Oriental<br>\nand 221 California Fried Chicken outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Amir said CFC was also expanding its operations in Malaysia,<br>\nIndia, and the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>\"We will start CFC outlets in those countries by next year,\"<br>\nhe said.
