The People\u2019s School programme in Central Java has now accommodated\n2,692 students spread across 10 permanent People\u2019s Schools and six pilot\nPeople\u2019s Schools. Deputy Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen,\nconsiders the programme to be one of the strategic measures to break the\nchain of poverty while also reducing the school dropout rate.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople\u2019s Schools are a way to break the chain of poverty. Because,\nhowever you look at it, the poverty rate in Central Java is still\nrelatively high,\u201d said Taj Yasin while representing Central Java\nGovernor Ahmad Luthfi in receiving the KPK RI Deputy for Prevention and\nMonitoring Team during a discussion on the planning and implementation\nof the People\u2019s School Programme in Central Java Province, at his office\nin Semarang, Wednesday (5\/8).<\/p>\n
The Central Java Provincial Government is committed to continuing to\noversee the People\u2019s School programme because it is part of the\ngovernment\u2019s efforts to provide access to education for children from\npoor and extremely poor families.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must oversee it because this is our president\u2019s idea, the aim of\nwhich is to honour poor families, so that People\u2019s Schools truly\nfacilitate the rise of ordinary people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the figure familiarly known as Gus Yasin said that\nCentral Java already has experience in managing boarding schools for\nstudents from underprivileged families.<\/p>\n
Currently there are three full boarding schools in Pati Regency,\nSemarang Regency, and Purbalingga, as well as 15 semi-boarding\nschools.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith the People\u2019s School Programme, we are certainly pleased,\nbecause this is in line with the pilot initiatives we have carried out\nover the past 10 years or so,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Head of the Central Java Social Service, Imam Maskur, said\nthat the 2,692 students enrolled in People\u2019s Schools for the 2026\/2027\nacademic year consist of 380 primary school students, 1,038 junior high\nschool students, and 1,274 senior high school students.<\/p>\n
All of them have participated in the School Environment Introduction\nPeriod on 31 July 2026. They are spread across 10 permanent People\u2019s\nSchools located in Pati, Banyumas, Wonosobo, Sragen, Jepara, Brebes,\nCilacap, Sukoharjo, and Rembang Regencies, as well as Semarang City.<\/p>\n
In addition, six pilot People\u2019s Schools are also operating in\nBanjarnegara, Temanggung, Blora, Magelang, Magelang Regency, and\nKebumen.<\/p>\n
Imam explained that student admissions at junior and senior high\nschool levels have almost entirely met their quotas. Meanwhile,\nadmissions for People\u2019s Primary Schools still face challenges because\nmany parents are not yet ready to let children aged six to seven years\nold live in dormitories.<\/p>\n
To optimise school capacity, Imam continued, the Ministry of Social\nAffairs has provided a policy allowing unfilled quotas at primary level\nto be transferred into additional classes at junior and senior high\nschool levels.<\/p>\n
Imam said that the development of People\u2019s Schools in Central Java\nwill continue in line with land readiness in a number of regions.\nCurrently, in addition to the 10 permanent People\u2019s Schools already in\noperation, the government is also processing construction in several\nother regencies so that the reach of educational services becomes\nincreasingly broad.<\/p>\n
According to him, if all 35 regencies\/cities in Central Java\neventually have People\u2019s Schools, the programme is estimated to be able\nto accommodate around 35,000 students.
