        "content": "<p>BMKG (Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika) issued an early\nwarning for Central Java today, 20 May 2026. Residents are urged to\nremain vigilant for extreme weather in nine districts of Central Java on\nthis Wednesday (20 May). In addition to heavy rains in mountainous\nareas, a threat of tidal flooding (banjir rob) along the northern coast\nand high waves in southern waters are serious concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Forecaster Risca Maulida of the Ahmad Yani Semarang Meteorological\nStation explained that although the region has entered the dry season,\nweather anomalies are still triggering showers of varying intensity.\n\u2018Extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds\nand lightning could occur in mountainous and highland areas from the\nafternoon to early evening,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p>Coastal conditions on Central Java\u2019s northern coast are also on\nalert. Tidal elevations of up to 1 metre are predicted between 10:00 and\n15:00 WIB. This could cause tidal flooding at several points; forecaster\nSediyanto of the Maritime Station Tanjung Emas Semarang warned that such\ntides may disrupt essential activities. \u2018Be vigilant for disruptions to\ntransportation, loading and unloading at ports, and salt-farming\nactivities in affected areas,\u2019 he emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, southern waters of Central Java face a risk of high waves,\nranging from 1.25 to 2.5 metres. BMKG has urged operators of fishing\nvessels, tugs and passenger transport to exercise caution, particularly\nwhen wind speeds exceed 15 knots.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors to beaches along the southern coast are advised not to swim\nor to stay away from the shore to avoid marine accidents caused by high\nwaves.<\/p>\n<p>In general, daytime temperatures in Central Java today are expected\nto range from 18 to 34 degrees Celsius, with humidity between 50 and 95\nper cent. Winds will blow from the east to the south at 3 to 27\nkilometres per hour. The public is urged to remain alert to\nhydrometeorological hazards such as landslides and whirlwinds.<\/p>",
