The Chair of the Indonesian Trade Union Congress (KASBI) for Central\nJava Province, Mulyono, has urged the government to abolish taxes on the\nOld Age Security (JHT) programme. He stressed that the majority of\nworkers do not use JHT funds for extravagance, but rather to sustain\ntheir lives after they are no longer employed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government must introspect, do not impose taxes on the poor,\nespecially workers. Because this will be detrimental to all of us, it is\na heavy burden,\u201d Mulyono said during an interview about the JHT tax, on\nthe sidelines of his participation in a mass demonstration with the\nCentral Java Guyub alliance in front of the Central Java Governor\u2019s\nOffice in Semarang on Thursday (23\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
He added that JHT is a fund accumulated from workers\u2019 monthly wages.\n\u201cJHT is not something we use just for fun. JHT is for our future\nlivelihood,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
According to him, the imposition of taxes on JHT needs to be\nreviewed. Mulyono argued that the government should instead focus on\npursuing taxes from the wealthy.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe demand that taxes for labourers be zeroed out. Not just JHT. When\nwe receive severance pay, the company has already deducted taxes from\nit.
