Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi is considering a policy requiring civil servants, including regents and mayors, to cycle to work on designated days as part of a broader energy-saving initiative, while awaiting guidelines from the central government. He also suggested alternatives like using public transport, running to the office, or implementing work-from-home arrangements to reduce energy consumption. Meanwhile, the provincial Energy and Mineral Resources Office head assured residents that fuel and LPG stocks are sufficient, urging them to avoid panic buying and to conserve energy across all sectors to prevent waste and maintain stability.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that he is examining a
proposal for civil servants (ASN), including regents and mayors in the
province, to cycle to their offices as a measure to save energy
consumption.

Luthfi revealed that the Central Java Provincial Government is still
awaiting a circular letter (SE) from the central government regarding
the technical implementation of energy saving. He said the SE is planned
to be issued on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Even without directives from the central government, Luthfi admitted
he is studying a policy for ASN, including regents and mayors in Central
Java, to cycle to the office. “We have calculated it; if necessary,
tomorrow on certain days, all ASN will cycle, including all regents and
mayors. So, to the office by bicycle,” he said on Monday
(30/3/2026).

However, Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a clear picture of the
technical implementation of the policy, including the scheduling for its
application. “We’ll calculate it later,” he said when asked whether the
cycling regulation for ASN would be applied every day.

He added that, besides cycling, another option for saving energy
consumption is to use public transport. “So, we will carry out
socialisation, we will study it; once the government announces it,
Central Java Province is ready,” said Luthfi.

Luthfi admitted he does not yet have a target for energy savings
within the scope of the Provincial Government. “We’re still calculating
it together. Besides bicycles, if necessary, run there and back,” he
said.

“Work-from-home is also still being studied. Which days are still
being studied,” Luthfi continued.

Previously, the Head of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM)
Office of Central Java Province, Agus Sugiharto, urged Central Java
residents to conserve energy. Nevertheless, he guaranteed that stocks of
fuel oil (BBM), including LPG, are still sufficient.

“I urge the people of Central Java in particular to remain calm,
maintain conducive conditions, and follow the government’s directive to
save energy in all sectors, whether electricity, BBM, or gas. That must
be done,” said Agus on Thursday (26/3/2026).

Nevertheless, he assured that energy availability is still adequate,
both in the electricity sector and for LPG, which is sufficient. For all
types of BBM, such as Pertalite, solar, Pertamax, and others, it is
still sufficient,” he said.

Therefore, Agus urged the public not to engage in panic buying or
spread unaccountable rumours. “So, no panic buying or issues that cannot
be accounted for,” he said.

According to him, panic buying would only cause losses to the public.
Agus also warned that hoarding BBM and LPG constitutes a criminal
act.

On the other hand, Agus opined that panic buying is a form of waste
in energy consumption. “The government has guaranteed and continues to
strive to meet all energy needs for its people,” said Agus.

Even though stocks and energy supplies are adequate, Agus still urged
the public, especially Central Java residents, to conserve energy.
“Energy saving must be done. No waste. In fact, panic buying is one of
the wasteful actions,” he said.
",
