        "content": "<p>Central Java approves 2004 PON bidding<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG (JP): The Central Java House of Representatives<br>\nfinally backed up the provincial administration's bid to stage<br>\nthe 16th National Games (PON) in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>\"The House decided to approve the bidding but we urge the<br>\nadministration to use the Provincial Budget maximum of Rp 50<br>\nbillion (US$7.15 million) instead of its original plan of Rp 85<br>\nbillion,\" M Toyfoer, the House's vice chairman, said on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Toyfoer said the Rp 50 billion would not disturb the<br>\nadministration's projects on public facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Central Java PON organizers will need Rp 200 billion, which is<br>\nexpected to be earned from the Provincial Budget and sponsorship.<\/p>\n<p>Some NGOs in Semarang protested the administration's plan to<br>\nbid for PON, saying that it was wasteful as the people have been<br>\nsuffering due to the economic crisis and need help.
