Central Jakarta prepares for fires<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The social welfare office in the Central Jakarta
\nmayoralty has stocked up on seven tons of rice and 100 boxes of
\ninstant noodles to help future fire victims in the area.<\/p>\n
Office head Suroto Purnomo told beritajakarta.com on Monday
\nanticipatory steps were being taken because of the prolonged dry
\nseason.<\/p>\n
"Nobody expects a fire but they happen quite often during the
\ndry season. Therefore our office needs to prepare food. Should
\nthere be a fire, we will already have the food to help the
\nvictims," he said.<\/p>\n
Suroto said his office has also prepared cooking equipment and
\nwould cooperate with the Indonesian Red Cross to provide tents
\nfor victims.<\/p>\n
The office will distribute the items to fire victims through a
\ncoordinator appointed by locals. Officials from the district
\noffice will only supervise the distribution.<\/p>\n
"We hope by having such a system we can monitor the
