Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Information Commission (KI Pusat) Chairman\nHandoko Agung Saputro has urged public bodies to strengthen their\ncommitment to information transparency in order to avoid being\ncategorised as uninformative in the monitoring and evaluation (monev) of\npublic information transparency.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf a body is uninformative once or twice, we can understand. Perhaps\nthere was a change of officials, perhaps there was negligence. But if it\nis repeatedly uninformative, then its commitment to public information\ntransparency deserves to be questioned,\u201d Handoko said during the \u201cKick\nOff and Socialisation of KIP Monev to Public Bodies\u201d at the Abdulrahman\nSaleh Auditorium, RRI Jakarta, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
According to him, the availability of documents or information on a\nparticular channel does not automatically demonstrate that the principle\nof transparency has been fulfilled if the public struggles to find,\nunderstand and utilise that information.<\/p>\n
\u201cInformation transparency must also become an institutional culture,\nnot merely the task of the PPID (Information and Documentation\nManagement Officer),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He argued that monev should serve as a mirror for every public body\nto assess the extent to which its information transparency obligations\nhave been fulfilled, including evaluating both what has been done well\nand what still needs improvement.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause this is not merely an administrative matter, the\nimplementation of monev should not simply be about chasing an\ninformative rating,\u201d Handoko said.<\/p>\n
He stressed that public information transparency is not just about\nsatisfying assessment instruments, but must ensure that the information\nprovided genuinely benefits the public.<\/p>\n
The public, he said, has the right to know public information as part\nof implementing the principle of popular sovereignty in a democratic\nstate.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Handoko reminded that the challenges of information\ntransparency are growing in the digital era because the public requires\ninformation that is fast, accurate and easily accessible.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that all public bodies would participate in the\n2026 monev process seriously, objectively, transparently and\naccountably.<\/p>\n
