This occasion\nserves as a reminder of the spirit and story of Raden Ajeng Kartini in\nher struggle for gender equality and women\u2019s emancipation, particularly\nin opening access to education for women in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the spirit of Kartini must continue to be carried forward.\nIn the present day, her values and fighting spirit can be seen in the\ncontributions of Indonesian women across various fields, from diplomacy\nand education to entrepreneurship and the environment. They emerge as\ninspirational figures who bring real change to society.<\/p>\n<p>Here are five modern Kartinis whose contributions deserve\nattention:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Retno Marsudi<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Retno Marsudi made history as Indonesia\u2019s first female Foreign\nMinister. She is a graduate in International Relations from Universitas\nGadjah Mada and pursued further studies in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Her diplomatic career is notably long, starting from various overseas\nassignments until she was entrusted to lead the Ministry of Foreign\nAffairs under President Joko Widodo\u2019s administration. In her role, Retno\nis known for actively promoting peace diplomacy, advocating for the\nprotection of Indonesian citizens abroad, and consistently raising\nissues of gender equality and women\u2019s roles in various global\nforums.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Najelaa Shihab<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Najelaa Shihab is the figure behind the establishment of Sekolah\nCikal, an educational institution renowned for its competency- and\ncharacter-based learning approach.<\/p>\n<p>As an education practitioner, Najelaa actively pushes for the\ntransformation of Indonesia\u2019s education system to make it more relevant\nto contemporary needs. She is also involved in various educational\nmovements that emphasise the importance of teacher quality and\nstudent-centred learning methods.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Ni Luh Djelantik<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ni Luh Djelantik is known as an Indonesian shoe designer who has\nsuccessfully brought her work to international markets. The brand she\nhas built not only prioritises product quality but also upholds local\nvalues and empowers artisans.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the creative industry, Ni Luh is vocal in voicing various\nsocial issues. She often uses her platform to express criticism and\naspirations, showing that women also have an important role in public\nspaces and social discourse.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Butet Manurung<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Butet Manurung is a pioneer in alternative education for indigenous\ncommunities in Indonesia. Through a contextual education approach, she\nprovides learning access to communities that have long been difficult to\nreach by the formal education system.<\/p>\n<p>Her dedication has been recognised internationally, including being\nselected as the Barbie Role Model 2022, representing Indonesia. Butet\nbecomes a symbol that education can come in various forms, adapted to\ncommunity needs.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Yasmin Mulyana<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Not all inspirational figures come from the big stage. Some grow from\nconsistent small steps that bring impact, even if not yet widely\nknown.<\/p>\n<p>One of them is Yasmin Mulyana. She is the Chair of the Lohjinawi\nFoundation in Surabaya, a foundation that has now expanded to various\nregions, establishing thousands of waste banks while promoting\ncommunity-based waste management.<\/p>\n<p>Through her foundation, Yasmin has successfully helped reduce waste\nby up to 20 tonnes every month through collaborations with various\npartners, one of which is Unilever Indonesia. This initiative not only\nimpacts the environment but also opens opportunities for community\nempowerment through education and community-based waste management.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Fransiska Gabriella<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From the younger generation, there is Fransiska Gabriella who chose\nan unconventional path. She decided to leave her job to focus on\nbuilding a human rights education community for vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n<p>The community she founded in 2025 targets women, children, and people\nwith disabilities who have had minimal access to education. Her steps\nshow that young people can also take real roles in social issues with\nbroad impact.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\" type=\"1\">\n<li>Zentri Hartanti<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Another no less inspirational name is Zentri Hartanti, a teacher who\ndedicates herself to remote areas and received an award at the Kartini\nAwards 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Through her dedication in education, she strives to change the\nmindset of the younger generation to be more daring in dreaming and\nindependent.
