        "content": "<p>CDC enters oil palm sector<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The UK venture capital Commonwealth Development<br>\nCorporation (CDC) signed on Thursday a US$32 million investment<br>\nagreement with local palm oil processing and plantation company<br>\nPT Harapan Sawit Lestari.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement raises CDC's stake in the company to 65 percent<br>\nand management control.<\/p>\n<p>\"This investment is important to CDC as it builds on our $160<br>\nmillion of investments in the oil palm sector in Southeast Asia<br>\nand the Pacific Islands,\" said CDC managing director Justin<br>\nBraithwaite.<\/p>\n<p>Harapan operates in Ketapang regency, West Kalimantan, with a<br>\n25,400 ha plantation area. CDC previously held the equivalent of<br>\na 20 percent stake in the company through convertible bond<br>\ninvestment in the firm.<\/p>\n<p>Justin also said CDC was interested in acquiring plantation,<br>\nmining and consumer good operations currently under the control<br>\nof the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency.<\/p>\n<p>He said CDC had allocated at least $100 million for IBRA<br>\ninvestment plans.
