CBD Pluit encircles school land<\/p>\n

Development comes at a cost -- at least for the 800 students and
\nteachers of Pluit Raya school whose campus is surrounded by the
\nongoing construction of a business center.<\/p>\n
Flags and banners, a modern painted construction fence and
\ntall cranes have changed the face of the school, where a mosque
\nstands, located less than 100 meters from Jembatan Tiga-Pluit
\nintersection, North Jakarta, or only one hour from the Soekarno-
\nHatta International Airport.<\/p>\n
Despite the fact that the developer of CBD Pluit denied that
\nit planned to occupy the school's lot, including the mosque
\nbelonging to school management Mukhlisin Foundation, the current
\nphysical condition of the school suggests otherwise.<\/p>\n
\"Our entrance from the now unused Sasana Krida sports hall has
\nbeen muddy since the construction project started in May,\" Pluit
\nRaya high school principal Sujud Hanafi told The Jakarta Post on
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
Walking to the side of the school, the building is practically
\nsurrounded by piles of soil dredged from the construction site of
\nthe project.<\/p>\n
Sujud said that the school operator had more than once
\ncomplained to the developer, the North Jakarta Education Office,
\nas well as City Hall.<\/p>\n
\"Finally, the developer gave us Rp 50 million to build a side
\nentrance and a signboard in front of the school,\" he said. \"We
\nhave not actually had any other inconvenience besides the muddy
\nentrance, but I am afraid that when they start piling up the soil
\non the site of the former sports hall, we will feel the effect of
\nthe project.\"<\/p>\n
He added that previously there had been talks among the
\nmembers of the foundation to move the school to neighboring Teluk
\nGong area.<\/p>\n
\"But, some of the students would have to travel farther than
\nthey do now. And anyway the foundation head disapproved,\" Sujud
\nsaid. \"It is very unlikely that we will move the school.\"<\/p>\n
However, Sujud confirmed that currently the foundation was
\nholding negotiations with the developer at the request of the
\ndeveloper to hand over the lot.<\/p>\n
CBD Pluit advertising and promotion manager Sugema, however,
\nasserted that the project would not harm the school.<\/p>\n
\"We are developing the project as far as people can see now,
\nthe school and the mosque are not within the plot,\" he told the
\nPost over the phone.<\/p>\n
The complex, which is currently in the initial stages, under
\nthe management of Agung Podomoro and city-owned PT Jakarta
\nPropertindo, will consist of blocks of shop houses, town houses,
\nan exclusive condominium, office towers, a shopping mall and a
