Cautions for 76 companies<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Owners of at least 76 industrial companies
\nhere have been warned to stop dumping their unprocessed waste or
\nhave their licenses revoked and stand trial in court.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Environment Office head M. Harun said Tuesday that
\nletters conveying the administration's strong warnings were
\ndelivered recently to company owners.<\/p>\n
The letters also ordered the companies to build water
\ntreatment plants which could help purify the waste.<\/p>\n
\"The companies are also obliged to continually report their
\nwaste analysis,\" Harun said.<\/p>\n
If the companies continued to ignore warnings and failed to
\nhelp protect the environment, the administration would
\nimmediately revoke their licenses and bring the executives to
\ncourt for violating Law No. 4\/1982 on the environment.<\/p>\n
Under the law, company owners could face a maximum jail
\nsentence of 10 years or a maximum fine of Rp 100 million
\n(US$34,190), he said.<\/p>\n
The Tangerang administration has investigated 306 industrial
\ncompanies and found that 161 of them dumped their waste in the
