The Central Board (PP) of Pemuda Katolik is strengthening the role of\nCatholic intellectuals and scientists in national development through\nthe 2026 National Conference of Catholic Youth Intellectuals and\nAcademics in Jakarta, on 29\u201330 August 2026.<\/p>\n
Chairman of PP Pemuda Katolik Stefanus Gusma said the role is being\nstrengthened particularly through knowledge, research, technology, and\npolicy ideas.<\/p>\n
\u201cCatholic intellectuals and scientists must be able to bridge\nscience, ethics, and the public interest,\u201d Gusma said in a statement in\nJakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Gusma explained that the conference blueprint places ethical\nresponsibility towards nature as the foundation of academic\ninvolvement.<\/p>\n
In this way, he said, Catholic intellectuals and scientists are\nencouraged to produce research that supports sustainable development,\ndevelop clean and renewable energy technology, assess the ecological\nimpact of public and industrial policies, and dare to be a critical\nvoice against development practices that damage the environment.<\/p>\n
For this reason, he hopes the forum will produce ideas that can be\ntranslated into recommendations and real movements.<\/p>\n
\u201cScience must provide solutions for energy security, while at the\nsame time ensuring social justice, environmental protection, and the\ninterests of future generations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Gusma also emphasised that the spirit of Laudato Si\u2019 serves as a\nmoral foundation in viewing energy development. Integral ecology reminds\nus that the environmental crisis cannot be separated from social,\neconomic, cultural, and spiritual crises.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, Deputy Minister of Investment and\nDownstreaming\/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu stressed investment\nas an important instrument for achieving the national economic growth\ntarget.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo achieve the 8 percent economic growth target, investment is one\nof the important instruments,\u201d Todotua said.<\/p>\n
The National Conference of Intellectuals and Academics was opened by\nMinister of Environment\/Head of the Environmental Control Agency\nMohammad Jumhur Hidayat.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, he emphasised the importance of ecological conversion\nand quoted the spirit of Laudato Si\u2019 regarding the need for a change in\nhuman attitudes towards the environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to encourage ecological conversion nationally so that\nconcern for the environment becomes a collective movement,\u201d Jumhur\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Jumhur also affirmed that the government will strengthen law\nenforcement against parties that damage the environment or production\nactivities that leave behind waste.<\/p>\n
The conference activities were symbolically opened through the\nwatering of plants by the attending figures. The symbol reinforced the\nconference\u2019s message that economic acceleration, downstreaming, and\nenergy security must go hand in hand with ecological responsibility.<\/p>\n
The conference, which carried the theme Synergy of Community\nParticipation in Accelerating Downstreaming and Energy Security Towards\nGolden Indonesia 2045, brought together government, academics,\nintellectuals, the business world, civil society, and Pemuda Katolik\ncadres to formulate intellectual contributions to the national energy\nagenda.<\/p>\n
