Caterer questioned over food poisoning<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Police have questioned the owner of catering
\nfirm Cita Rasa, Natalia, over a food poisoning outbreak on
\nThursday at car assembly plant PT Pulogadung Pawitra Laksana on
\nJl. Gaya Motor, Sunter, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"Employees of the company have told the police that the
\nbutter-fried shrimps provided by the catering firm tasted
\nstrange.<\/p>\n
\"Therefore, we are temporarily focusing our investigation on
\nidentifying whether the food was the cause of the incident,\"
\nNorth Jakarta Police chief Sr. Supt. Wisjnu Achmad Sastro told
\nreporters on Saturday at his office.<\/p>\n
Besides questioning Natalia, a resident of Kebon Kacang,
\nCentral Jakarta, the police were also waiting for the results of
\nlaboratory tests on the employees' vomit, many of whom were still
\nin hospital on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
\"The samples have been handed over to the city police's
\ncriminal laboratory to determine the cause of the incident,\"
\nWisjnu said.<\/p>\n
The officer said the police were still thinking of the charges
\nto be applied to the catering firm owner if it is found that the
\npoisoning was a result of carelessness at her firm.<\/p>\n
\"We are still searching for the charges, since no employees
\nhave died yet.<\/p>\n
\"If any of them die, the caterer will face a stiff sentence as
\nshe will be charged with violating Article 359 of the Criminal
\nCode on carelessness leading to someone's death,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The Article carries a maximum sentence of five years in jail.<\/p>\n
Wisjnu said there were four catering firms which provided
\nlunch for the employees and the company's management.<\/p>\n
The four are PT Mandiri, located on Jl. Cempaka Putih Barat;
\nPT Rasa Mala on Jl. R.A. Kartini and PT Cita Rasa on Jl. Kebon
\nKacang, all in Central Jakarta; and PT Kusuma Naraya on Jl.
\nWijaya Kusuma in Cakung, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"PT Mandiri and PT Rasa Mala provide food for the management
\nof the company, while the employees were served by PT Cita Rasa
\nand PT Kusuma Naraya,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said Thursday's menu for both employees and management
\ncomprised of rice, butter-fried shrimps, beef, mustard leaf soup
\nand crackers.<\/p>\n
\"PT Cita Rasa prepared the butter-fried shrimps, which are
\nbelieved to have been the source of the incident,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Wisjnu said six employees were still being treated at
\nSukamulya Hospital, 36 at Medika Griya Hospital and another 52 at
\nSunter Agung Hospital, all in North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Nurse Lies at UKI hospital in East Jakarta said that on
\nSaturday afternoon the hospital was still treating 21 employees.<\/p>\n
It is believed that there are many other employees being
\ntreated at other hospitals.<\/p>\n
However, the company management was not available for comment
\non Saturday.<\/p>\n
Some 186 employees of the company, which assembles Isuzu
\nPanther minivans, began complaining on Friday of nausea and
\ngiddiness hours after they had finished lunch on Thursday. (asa)<\/p>",
