Case against DPR set for hearing<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The civil lawsuit against the House of
\nRepresentatives' special committee investigating the Bulog (State
\nLogistics Agency) and Brunei scandals, which allegedly involves
\nPresident Abdurrahman Wahid, is scheduled to be heard beginning
\nJan. 3 next year at the Central Jakarta District Court, an
\nofficial said last week.<\/p>\n
\"The panel of judges will comprise Bambang S. Sriwulan as the
\npresiding judge, Judge Poerwanto and Judge Marni Emy M.<\/p>\n
\"I have just delivered the summons to the House today
\n(Tuesday),\" court clerk Heri told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
The summons was received by chairman of the House's special
\ncommittee Bachtiar Chamsyah.<\/p>\n
The plaintiffs, namely Siti Farikha, Aris Junaedi and Masnuh,
\nare linked to the Nadhlatul Ulama (NU) Muslim organization,
\nformerly chaired by Abdurrahman.<\/p>\n
While Semarang-based businesswoman Siti Farikha has family
\nlinks with the NU organization, Aris Junaedi is a brother of
\nArifin Junaidi, a legislator of the National Awakening Party
\n(PKB).<\/p>\n
Masnuh is the deputy treasurer at the NU executive board.<\/p>\n
The House's special committee is probing the possible
\ninvolvement of Abdurrahman in the withdrawal of Rp 35 billion
\nbelonging to a State Logistics Agency (Bulog) foundation and the
\nmisuse of a US$2 million donation from Brunei's Sultan Hassanal
\nBolkiah.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the plaintiffs' lawyer Sitor Situmorang said none of
\nthe special commissions formed by the House were registered with
\nthe state secretariat, as required by a 1954 law which stipulates
\nthat the establishment of such committees should be listed in the
\nState Gazette.<\/p>\n
\"The special committee investigating the Bulog and the Brunei
\nscandals is illegal, as it has not been listed in the State
\nGazette, as required by Law No. 6\/1954 on the legislature's right
\nof inquiry,\" Sitor told reporters.<\/p>\n
\"Our clients demand that the committee pays each of them Rp
\n1,000,000,001 -- Rp 1 billion for material losses and Rp 1 for
\nsubsidiary losses.\"<\/p>\n
The same charges were also made earlier by the President, who
\nstated that the committee was illegal since it had not been
\nlisted in the State Gazette.<\/p>\n
Vice President<\/p>\n
The House's special committee intends to question Vice
\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri, after questioning the President
\nand his former masseur Suwondo, to seek clarification.<\/p>\n
Bachtiar Chamsyah had said that Megawati would be questioned
\nas she was mentioned in the testimony of former National Police
\nchief Gen. Rusdihardjo.<\/p>\n
He said Rusdihardjo has admitted before the committee that he
\nhad handed over a police dossier on the case to Vice President
\nMegawati Soekarnoputri. (ylt)<\/p>",
