TEMPO Interactive, Purbalingga: Purbalingga Regent, Triyono Budi Sasongko, has refused to have the giant retail company Carrefour in Purbalingga.<\/p>\n
\u201cCarrefour asked for permission to open a branch at a former traditional market site. I rejected it,\u201d he said after officially opening the modernized traditional market, Segamas, yesterday (1\/6).<\/p>\n
Triyono explained that giant retail company would remove small and medium entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
Therefore, investors that eliminate people's income should be rejected.<\/p>\n
Triyono said that the rejection shows the government's protection for small and medium enterprises and so community-based economy can keep growing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe regency government has agreed to develop the community economy by modernizing the traditional market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Triyono went on to say that the building of Segamas market replacing the old market was built in a modern way.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe construction costs Rp25 billion,\u201d said Triyono.<\/p>\n
The regional government is not working with investors in renovating the market as investors would demand higher rental costs from traders.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it is all under the government except the contractor,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
By having the market management under regency government, traders do not need to pay back the entire construction expenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on our calculation, traders only return Rp7.9 billion in the form of service charges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Irawan Kadarman, Indonesian Carrefour's Corporate Affair Director, denied Carrefour's proposal to open branch in Purbalingga.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not have a plan to open Carrefour in Purbalingga,\u201d he told Tempo, yesterday (1\/6).<\/p>\n
