Car thief dies after mobbing<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A man who was mobbed by Central Jakarta
\nresidents Saturday for attempting to steal a car, died in
\nhospital Sunday.<\/p>\n
City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said Monday Asep
\nRosana Rozak, 25, tried to break into a car on Jl. Proklamasi,
\nMenteng.<\/p>\n
\"Asep used a master key to open the car which had been left
\njust a few minutes before by the owner, Wawan Kurniawan,\"
\nAritonang said.<\/p>\n
Wawan, a private university student who was visiting a friend
\nin the area, shouted for help when he saw the man opening the
\ndoor, he said.<\/p>\n
Dozens of residents, who heard Wawan's shout, chased Asep and
\nassaulted him, Aritonang said.<\/p>\n
Police officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect
\nwho had been beaten black and blue.<\/p>\n
According to Aritonang, Asep was then taken to Kramatjati
\nPolice Hospital where he died Sunday.<\/p>\n
Asep, a unemployed man, had just been released from Salemba
\npenitentiary Friday, he said. (jun)<\/p>",
