JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – National car sales from January to April 2026
show a positive trend.

According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association
(Gaikindo), total domestic sales reached 289,787 units, a 12% increase
compared to the same period last year.

This condition is seen as a signal of the recovery of the national
automotive market after experiencing pressure in recent years. Several
agency holders (APM) are also starting to be optimistic that the market
can continue to grow until the end of the year.

Chief Operating Officer of HMID, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, said that
the increase in sales has been visible since February 2026.

However, the market experienced an adjustment in March due to the Eid
al-Fitr holiday period and a shorter number of working days.

“However, in March there was an adjustment or normalization, this was
due to Eid or the holidays. The number of working days was also short,”
he added.

Despite this, in April the market showed recovery again. Hyundai sees
this as an opportunity for the national automotive industry to continue
to grow.

“In April, it looks like there is a recovery again and we see that
the market is moving upwards. So if Hyundai looks at it, this is an
opportunity for all of us so that the automotive market can return to 1
million units,” said Fransiscus.

“But if we look at the intention of each manufacturer to enter the
market with new products or with customer benefits, we see that this is
very interesting,” he said.

Several automotive brands are currently aggressively introducing new
products, including electric vehicles and attractive sales programs to
boost consumer demand. This condition is expected to maintain the
momentum of growth in the domestic automotive market until the end of
the year.

KOMPAS.com is committed to providing clear, trustworthy and balanced
facts.
