Car hits students, kills two<\/p>\n

A car drove into a group of 137 students marching along a street
\nas part of their morning exercise on Tuesday in the Riau capital
\nof Pekanbaru, leaving two dead and at least nine others injured.<\/p>\n
The hit-and-run driver of the Daihatsu Taruna was arrested by
\npolice later in the day.<\/p>\n
Students of Pekanbaru Agricultural Senior High School (SPMA)
\nwere marching in three rows on Jl. Kaharuddin Nasution toward
\ndowntown around 5:30 a.m., a routine morning exercise, when a
\nspeeding Taruna appeared from the opposite direction.<\/p>\n
According to Heri Suprianto, a student who survived the
\naccident, the car was zig-zagging down the street and drove into
\nthe students at the head of the group, then fled immediately.<\/p>\n
Two students, Eko Sutiono and Annisa, were taken to Thabrani
\nRab Hospital, where they died a few hours later, said Wan
\nSumarni, a SPMA teacher.<\/p>\n
The nine injured students were treated at Thabrani and two
\nother hospitals, Pekanbaru Hospital and Ibnu Sina Hospital.<\/p>\n
Local police moved swiftly after the accident to track down
\nthe driver of the car, and made an arrest on Tuesday afternoon in
\nLubuk Siam subdistrict, Kampar regency, some 50 kilometers west
\nof Pekanbaru, said Pekanbaru Police traffic chief Comr.
\nOctavianus.<\/p>\n
The driver of the car was identified as Ujar, 28, a resident
\nof Simalinyang, Kampar, and was nabbed along with his friend
\nAbdul Gani, 35.<\/p>\n
The two told police they were on their way home from Pangkalan
\nKerinci in Pelalawan regency, east of Pekanbaru, when Ujar hit
\nthe students.<\/p>\n
\"The suspect (Ujar) confessed that he was dozing off while
\ndriving,\" said Octavianus.<\/p>",
