Capital city outside Java<\/p>\n

In order to solve lots of crucial problems facing the capital
\ncity, I would like to suggest that the capital of the republic be
\nmoved outside Java. We should build a specific city, that is far
\nfrom the tumult of business activities.<\/p>\n
The new site for the capital city could be in Kalimantan,
\nSulawesi, or Irian Jaya because these places are still sparsely
\npopulated. The new capital should function only as the center of
\nthe government of the republic.<\/p>\n
The present capital is already too crowded. We should be
\nashamed of this condition and try to find a better place. The
\nUnited States did it in the past. They moved their capital from
\nPhiladelphia to a special district, which is now known as
\nWashington D.C.<\/p>\n
True, it would need a tremendous amount of funds to build a
\nnew capital. But the private sector can be involved in the
\nproject. Jakarta will not necessarily lose its significance. It
\nwill still retain its glamor and identity. It can be used as a
\nplace for international conferences, like New York. Also the
\nproblem of urbanization, which continues to be a headache to the
\nJakarta Administration, will be solved.<\/p>\n
