Candidates for vice governors<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The City Council's plenary meeting yesterday
\napproved the nomination of Central Jakarta Mayor Abdul Kahfi and
\nDjaelani, an assistant to a state minister, as deputy governors
\nfor administrative affairs and welfare affairs respectively.<\/p>\n
Council speaker Edy Waluyo said after the meeting that the
\ndecision was also made based on a letter of recommendation from
\nthe governor to the minister of home affairs and similar written
\nsupport from the Armed Forces chief.<\/p>\n
Kahfi, 55, is a 1966 graduate of the military academy and a
\nbrigadier general.<\/p>\n
Djaelani, 51, a major general, is currently an assistant to
\nState Minister of Population\/Chairman of the National Family
\nPlanning Board Haryono Suyono. He earned a medical degree from
\nthe University of Indonesia in 1966.<\/p>\n
Kahfi will replace Idroes, who is to join the House of
\nRepresentatives and Djaelani replaces R.S Museno, who has just
\nretired.<\/p>\n
It remains unclear who will be appointed the new Central
\nJakarta mayor.<\/p>\n
According to spokesman Edy, yesterday's approval will be
\nsubmitted to the governor, who will then present it to the
\nPresident, via the minister of home affairs, for final approval.<\/p>\n
If everything proceeds smoothly, Kahfi and Djaelani will be
\ninstalled before the new governor on Oct. 6. (jun)<\/p>",
