This was stated by Haryo Utomo\nSuryosumarto, founder of Headhunter Indonesia, who said he quite often\nsees parents escorting and even accompanying their children into the\noffice or the interview area. Haryo said this parental involvement can\nbe detrimental to the child or job candidate. Recruiters will view the\ncandidate as a \u2018red flag\u2019 because they are considered to still be\ndependent on their parents. \u2018In my opinion, this impacts the assessment\nof the candidate themselves. It cannot be dismissed that from the\nrecruiter\u2019s perspective, this is a red flag,\u2019 Haryo said. He revealed\nthree main aspects that make parental involvement during the interview\nprocess viewed negatively by companies. First, it shows that the job\ncandidate is not ready to enter the professional world independently.\n\u2018Because if they are still accompanied by their parents for a job\ninterview, the recruiter will assess that this person is not ready to\nface the professional world independently,\u2019 Haryo said. Second, a\ncandidate who is still accompanied by their parents potentially lacks\ninitiative. According to Haryo, recruiters will assess them as a\nvulnerable candidate because they potentially depend on their parents to\ntake important steps or make decisions at work. Third, a candidate\naccompanied by their parents is considered not yet to have a mature\nthought process for solving problems independently. \u2018This is a huge red\nflag. In short, the recruiter will consider the candidate to still be\ndependent on their parents, not yet mature, and not yet ready to enter\nthe working world,\u2019 Haryo said. Haryo stated that parental involvement\nin a child\u2019s career is not always negative. The boundary considered\nreasonable in the professional world is for parents to support their\nchild behind the scenes, rather than being directly involved in the\nrecruitment process. This form of support includes giving encouragement,\nhelping to manage anxiety, and being a mental companion for the child.\nAnother form of support that is still reasonable is helping to compile\nor prepare a CV. According to Haryo, parents can act as an editor to\nensure the structure, grammar, and format of the CV meet professional\nstandards. \u2018Sometimes Gen Z\u2019s grammar might still be messy, so if the\nparents have experience and insight, please take on the role of CV\neditor for their child. Of course, without changing the essence,\nexperience, and achievements of the child themselves,\u2019 he said.
