Cancel telephone rate hikes!<\/p>\n

We are community members of Depok Perumnas housing complex and
\nits surrounding areas, mostly civil servants and earners of
\nmodest incomes at private companies. We herewith call on the
\nHouse of Representatives\/People's Consultative Assembly, which
\n\"voice the people's aspirations\", to take action to have the
\ntelephone rate hikes canceled. If necessary, House members must
\nsee to the lowering of the rates in the same way they effected
\nthe lowering of the number of seats held by the Armed Forces in
\nthe two institutions.<\/p>\n
The country's economy has been badly battered by the deep
\neconomic crisis. Prices of daily necessities are relatively
\nhigh. The unemployment rate is increasing owing to layoffs. As a
\nresult, social unrest is occurring across the country. The
\ntelephone tariff hikes will only make life more burdensome for
\nthe majority of people.<\/p>\n
Monthly telephone subscription fees have been raised along
\nwith the call rates. But there is no difference in the tariffs
\nset for low-income or wealthy telephone subscribers.<\/p>\n
Thus, what is the use of the government-sponsored community
\nempowerment program to alleviate the impact of the economic
\ncrisis and the social safety net program? These programs need
\nsupport from the majority of community members, who now have to
\nface the bitter reality that their telephone tariffs have been
\nraised.<\/p>\n
