Canada warns public of visa scammers<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Canadian embassy in Jakarta is warning people of
\nseveral scams circulating that promise Canadian visas and
\nemployment in the country.<\/p>\n
The bogus agents advertised in newspapers and on the Internet
\nto solicit clients and then charged them higher costs than the
\nEmbassy charged to process their documents, the embassy said in a
\npress release.<\/p>\n
People risked losing their money and their personal documents,
\nwhich were never sent to the embassy, it said.<\/p>\n
The Internet scams came through e-mail spam and pop-up
\nwebsites. These e-mails and websites usually had poor English and
\nrequested payment in currencies other than Canadian dollars --
\nIndonesian rupiah, or in the form of wire transfers to Senegal,
\nNigeria, or other African countries.<\/p>\n
"The Canadian Embassy urges extreme caution toward any agent
\nwho offers employment in Canada or guarantees a Canadian visa.
\nThe Embassy recommends that prospective visitors or immigrants to
\nCanada consult the two official websites: www.cic.gc.ca and
