Canada aids 'governance reform'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Chairman of National Development Planning Board
\n(Bappenas) Boediono and Canadian Ambassador Kenneth Sunquist
\nsigned on Tuesday two development assistance programs, including
\none on \"governance reform\", worth C$5 million (US$3.3 million).<\/p>\n
The aid was for technical support for the Indonesian
\ngovernment's campaign to overcome the economic crisis and launch
\nreform.<\/p>\n
At the signing of the two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs),
\nSunquist said Canada hoped, through the assistance comanaged by
\nBappenas and the Canadian International Development Agency
\n(CIDA), to soon establish cooperation with various ministries and
\nagencies.<\/p>\n
The first memorandum was on \"the governance reform support
\nproject in Indonesia\" worth C$4 million, which will be disbursed
\nover a period of four years. \"The project is meant to facilitate
\nIndonesia's reform agenda in governance and participatory
\ndevelopment,\" the Canadian Embassy's statement said.<\/p>\n
The project would respond to requests for technical assistance
\nfrom ministries and state agencies in formulating, planning,
\nimplementing and supervising social, economic and administrative
\npolicies in line with the government's agenda.<\/p>\n
The second memorandum was an amendment on the \"development
\nplanning assistance project\" which provided an additional fund of
\nC$1 million. The fund for the project is now C$4.99 million.<\/p>\n
The project began one and a half years ago. It is meant to
\nimprove Bappenas' \"capability in planning policies for the next
\nfive-year development plan.\" (swe)<\/p>",
